The Manpower Planning and Employment Council, MPEC Secretariat continuously monitors the efficacy of the i-READY apprenticeship programme towards achieving the programme's objective of enhancing Marketability and Employability for locals. The explanation was made by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy, in response to the query raised by Yang Berhormat Dayang Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Hadii on reviewing or suitability of the i-Ready scheme.
Yang B erhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew said that the MPEC Secretariat has made a number of reviews on the misuse of the programme by a number of companies such as reducing the employee's salary or terminating them due to dependence on the payment of the i-Ready allowance, giving posts that are not suitable to their qualifications as promised. Up to 15th February 2020, 58 apprentices are currently placed with on par companies and 3 of them have been recruited for permanent positions. Meanwhile, 41 out of 284 apprentices have obtained permanent positions with Micro, Small and Medium enterprises, MSME's. From the aspect of entrepreneurship development, one i-Ready group comprising 7 graduates has started their own business. Therefore, Yang Berhormat Dato urged locals including the i-Ready apprentices interested to venture into entrepreneurship to make use of the existing platform such as the programmes conducted by Darussalam Enterprise or DARe and LiveWire.
