Folklore Writing Workshop

Folklore can attract, educate and enhance the cognitive and psychomotor skills of children. It also exposes children to knowledge which enables them to develop their personalities and sharpen their minds in responding to certain things. In this regard, the Language and Literature Bureau organized the first phase of the 2019 Folklore Writing Workshop. It was aimed to search and gather folklore which can evoke the Bruneian sense of identity. The event which commenced today took place at the Language and Literature Bureau Library in Bandar Seri Begawan.

The 3 day workshop is one of the three main activities lined up as part of the Young Writer's Programme launched last Tuesday. 25 participants comprising young writers and students from local higher education institutions as well as officers and staff of departments under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. It was facilitated by Doctor Maslin bin Haji Jukin, a lecturer at Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Doctor Maslin said that there is a need to make the young writers understand their perception of folklore because folklore is not only a story. It involves oral and partially oral as well as material in its delivery.
