The 1st Meeting of the 17th Legislative Council Session at the end of its session yesterday also heard Adjournment Speeches from the Ex-Officio Members. Among other matters several Cabinet Ministers touched on a number of issues which were discussed during the meeting.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs noted that since COVID-19 first occurred in the country in March last year, the government only gives consideration to the recruitment of foreign workers in essential fields and who are truly required as a precautionary measure in curbing the pandemic.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs said dialogue sessions should be held more frequently, not just once a year. One way, the Department of Legislative Council can schedule the meetings throughout the year. They can be divided categories such as raised issues or government services, including services desired by the public and others.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohammad Yussof, Second Minister of Defence said the Ministry will continue to progress and be committed to its role based on three main pillars which are deterrence and response, defence diplomacy and holistic defence. The three pillars or cores will give confidence and security to the country's citizens and residents.
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office said the Prime Minister's Office through cooperation with security and enforcement agencies will continue to formulate strategies to maintain political stability, defend the country and link defence and diplomatic capabilities as well as the country's preparedness in handling threats and security. This include increasing crime eradicating efforts and strengthening the capabilities of stakeholder agencies in managing national and cross-border crises.
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Ingenieur Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development said the construction of the infrastructure in the country proves that the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam continues to be committed to infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic growth. The Government through the Ministry of Development has implemented a large number of projects that bring a great impact in upgrading the living standard of the country's citizens and residents.
