Certificates and Letter of Appointment Presentation

Brunei Darussalam BIMP-EAGA Business Council BD BEBC is urged to grab the opportunities in the sub-region and use BIMP-EAGA as a platform to further develop the country's economic growth. According to the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy for Economy, BIMP-EAGA is a sub-regional economic cooperation between Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines to increase trade, tourism and investment by taking into account the resources available in the sub-regional growth areas. Speaking at the presentation of Certificates and Letters of Appointment for the new members of the Brunei Darussalam BIMP-EAGA Business Council BD BEBC yesterday afternoon, Dato Seri Paduka Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin explained that since its inception, BIMP-EAGA has gone through various challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected the development of the growth area.

However, with the support of the Governments of the BIMP-EAGA member countries, cooperation in the sub-region remains strong and relevant to-date. The Deputy Minister explained that the direction of BIMP-EAGA for 2017 to 2025, is to make the sub-region, Resilient, Inclusive, Sustainable and economically competitive. The direction is guided by five main strategic pillars, namely connectivity, nutrition, tourism, environment as well as socio-cultural and education.

Acording to Dato Seri Paduka Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf, Brunei Darussalam has assumed the responsibilities of the Chairman of the BIMP-EAGA Business Council at the sub-regional level for a 3-year period. The responsibility requires commitment, dedication, sustainability and vision in line with the goals outlined in BEV 2025. He recommended for the Chairman and members of BD BEBC to make the most of this role, grab the opportunities available in the sub-region and further use BIMP-EAGA as a platform in further developing the country's economic growth. He also hoped that the involvement of the BD BEBC in the 3 Clusters, namely Food Basket, ICT and tourism can be realized in the near future.

The ceremony coincided with the launch of the BD BEBC website. During the event, His Excellency Christopher B. Montero, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to the country officially handed over the Chairmanship of the BIMP-EAGA Business Council to Pengiran Haji Haris bin Pengiran Haji Duraman, Chairman of BD BEBC. Meanwhile, the new BD BEBC members for the 2021 to 2024 session received their respective certificates. The ceremony took place at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong.
