An international investor from Japan has started its operation in the country and thus, paving ways towards creating local employment, training and research. Tavelmout Biofarm Brunei Sendirian Berhad, TVMB, a pioneer in the large-scale cultivation of spirulina, has started its operation at the Bio-Innovation Corridor Industrial Park, in Kampong Tungku-Rimba.
The company has locally produced "Taberumo" product which is the world's first frozen raw spirulina with stringent food safety standards. Taberumo is a product which maximises the strength of spirulina's odorless fresh taste and rich nutrients. It can also be mixed with all kinds of food.
TVMB was launched yesterday morning by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism.
Earlier, His Excellency Eiji Yamamoto, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the country in his remarks expressed hoped that Taberumo project would definitely contribute to the diversification of Brunei Darussalam's economy. Also present were Doctor Awang Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metusin, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy and Yang Berhormat Dayang Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii, Member of the Legislative Council.
In the first year, TVMB is targeting to produce 6 tons per month and will be increasing the production capacity yearly, and the maximum production volume after expansion of the facility is expected to reach one thousand tons. TVMB has started exporting the product to Japan last month. The company is also aiming to export their product globally.
