Youth Role towards Development

Two local youths who represented Brunei Darussalam at the ASEAN Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of ASEAN Youth in Phnom Penh, Cambodia recently, expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to voice their aspiration and ideas, forged ties with their fellow youth delegates from other ASEAN countries and strengthen their resolve to proactively contribute to the betterment of the region and strengthening of people-to-people ties. Brunei Darussalam was represented by Awang Mohammad Abdul Wafi bin Haji Sofian, Head of Operations and Head of Secretariat of the COVID-19 Youth Volunteers and Dayang Nur Izzah Amalia binti Malik Iskandar, a student at Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA.

 

Awang Mohammad Abdul Wafi in an interview with RTB, said the session was a platform for ASEAN Leaders to convey their expectations of the youth, as well as for the youth to share their efforts and contributions towards the development of the region. Representatives of ASEAN Youth also discussed on the role of the youth as future leaders towards enhancing sustainable development in the region.

 

Issues affecting youths and how they can collaborate with the youths from across the ASEAN and other stakeholders in reaping the benefits and opportunities from Fourth Industrial Revolution was also addressed at the session. Dayang Nur Izzah Amalia, shared how regional cooperation can create more opportunities for youths to become future-ready.
