All Postal Service Providers are responsible for contributing towards a resilient environment. As a major contributor to the letter and package delivery industry, the Postal Services Department and courier companies in the country are advised to jointly implement initiatives to further increase awareness of the environment. The Minister of Transport and Infocommunications stated the matter in conjunction with the World Post Day Celebration, which is celebrated every 9th of October.

With the theme, “POST FOR PLANET”, it aims to provide awareness of the importance on the role of post in the environment and the impact of daily activities that lead to climate change. The theme also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals towards a resilient environment.

Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha stressed that the demand to provide more environmentally friendly letter and package delivery services is timely and innovation plays an important role in dealing with this matter. It also coincides with the vision of the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, MTIC 2025, which is to achieve Environment Sustainability.

Yang Berhormat added, some challenges still need to be overcome, especially when it comes to creating an efficient and viable traditional letter delivery service, more and more competition such as the transition to the use of electronic mail and so on, has resulted in a decrease in the total of physical correspondence that normally generates revenue income. Realising this fact, the business model of the Postal Services Department needs to go through changes and current transitions.

In the meantime, the Postal Services Department is committed to innovation and continuous improvement. This includes their ongoing efforts in providing more environmentally friendly services, such as making advance travel and destination planning more organised. Apart from increasing productivity, it is also more efficient and economical. In an effort to protect the environment, the Postal Services Department will also always strive to implement strategies and progress with the times. The role of post will also always remain relevant in daily activities to meet the customers’ needs.
