Tutong District Flood Retention Pond Building Project

The Flood Retention Pond Construction Project is implemented to reduce the level of flood risk in Tutong District, as one of the flood mitigation projects in the district. The implementation of the project is also as a more holistic measure and strategy in improving and providing a sustainable drainage system.

The dam construction project at three flood retention ponds in Sungai Pemadang, Sungai Tanjung Maya and Sungai Bang Ligi in Tutong District was implemented to reduce the level of flood risk in the Tutong River plain area. The construction project of more than 6 million dollars will be able to help reduce the impact of floods in several places that have been identified as frequent floods in the district. With the completion of the project, it is hoped that it will be able to reduce the flood prone area by 30 square kilometres.

An engineer, Dayang Hajah Ridzwannah Binti Haji Awang Omar said the main scope of work for the project is to build 3 dams as flood retention ponds in 3 villages, namely Kampung Takuyad, Kampung Nak Tunoh and Kampung Litad. The related works include outlet drainage works, penstock, spillway and installing flood early warning system. The project is implemented to reduce the level of flood risk in the Tutong River plain downstream of the project. So far, it is running smoothly and satisfactorily and is expected to be completed this year.
