The Crown Prince CIPTA Awards

His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei, UTB graced the Crown Prince Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement, CIPTA Award 2021 Ceremony. The 9th Crown Prince CIPTA Award Competition is hoped to encourage youths and the public to build and process creative products or technology for the country and ASEAN's aspirations. The ceremony took place at the International Convention Centre in Berakas yesterday morning.

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness as the Patron of the Crown Prince CIPTA Award was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Md Hussein, Minister of Energy and Datin Seri Paduka Doctor Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Acting Minister of Education.

The reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.

Professor Doctor Hajah Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman, Vice Chancellor of UTB in her welcoming address, among others, touched on the increase in the Crown Prince CIPTA Award participation, from 41 entries in the previous competition to 67. She added that it shows a positive development towards cultivating innovative and creative minds among youths. The participation of ASEAN member countries can also act as catalysts to the competitiveness of local participants and act as a benchmark to the quality of participation in every Crown Prince CIPTA Award competition.

The theme of the Crown Prince CIPTA Award this time around is 'Innovations for Society 5.0', which stressed a multi-dimensional technological innovation to fulfil the needs of the global community by tackling 17 main elements of the Sustainable Development Goals. The biennial competition was organised by UTB with the cooperation and sponsorship of Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad.

Pengiran Doctor Rafidah binti Pengiran Haji Petra, Co-Chair of the CIPTA 2021 Technical Committee in the judging summary said that a part of the Crown Prince CIPTA Award products were excellent for the environment and engineering, and can be used by the general public.

His Royal Highness presented prizes to the winners of the Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2021. There were no first and second place winners for the Creating New Product, Process or Technology category.

The 'Smart Fish System-Water Quality Management System for Red Tilapia Rear in Poly Tank' project by Dayang Roshartiney binti Haji Damit, Awang Haji Ismit bin Haji Mohamad and Doctor Dayang Wida Susanty binti Haji Suhaili from UTB won the modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology category. They received 6 thousand dollars cash, certificates and trophies.

There was no first place winner for the creating New or Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology by Young Inventors category. Second place went to Wesley Onn Wei Rong with his supervisor, Johary bin Haji Mohammad, with the project named 'Poseidon'. They received 2 thousand dollars, certificate and trophy.

The Smart Junior Competition category was won by 'Rubbish Rewards' project designed by Awang Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Yazid, Awang Muhammad Hashim Dzulkarnain bin Muhammad Redzuan Sani and Dayang Nuraqilah binti Ariffin, with their supervisor Awang Muhd Fauzan bin Awang Damit. The group from Berakas Secondary School received one thousand dollars, certificates and trophy.

His Royal Highness received a pesambah from the CIPTA 2021 Organising Committee.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince then viewed the exhibition. The competition saw 67 participation, with 51 of them from Brunei Darussalam itself while 16 others from the ASEAN countries. Inspiring youths and the public to develop creative products, processes or technology in line with the country's aspiration as well as encouraging invention and innovation in the country were among the competition's objectives.

In conjunction with the Crown Prince CIPTA 2021 Award, a number of seminars will be held for three days starting this Friday at the International Convention Centre in Berakas. His Royal Highness' presence showed his care and attention towards the progress of inventions and innovations in science, technology and engineering.
