Teacher’s Day Conference

In an effort to improve the quality of education in Brunei Darussalam, the Ministry of Education held a Teacher's Day Conference in conjunction with the 29th Teacher's Day Celebration yesterday morning.

Present to launch the conference was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education. Also in attendance was Datin Seri Paduka Doctor Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd. Salleh, Deputy Minister of Education.

Pengiran Hajah Mas Joliwane binti Pengiran Haji Tejudin, Acting Head of Science, Technology and Environment Partnership (STEP) Centre, Ministry of Education in her welcoming speech said the conference aimed to serve as a platform for teachers, academics, thought-leaders and school leaders from various backgrounds to share, discuss and exchange views pertaining to practical and theory for programmes, as well as innovative strategies to improve the quality of education in the country.

The one-day conference took place at the Chancellor Hall and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education, University Brunei Darussalam. 282 participants from various Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs institutions participated in the conference.

In a keynote address Doctor Teo Chew Lee, Senior Research Scientist from the National Institute of Education NIE, Nanyang Technology University NTU, Singapore emphasised the importance of innovation in education. The talk was titled 'Communities of Innovators through Evidence-based and Theory-driven practice'. The event ended with a forum session chaired by Awang Eddy Fazlin bin Hamdan, Assistant Director in the Department of Schools with three other panellists.
