Tabling Of Working Paper

The Knowledge Convention Seminar continued yesterday with the tabling of two working paper with session 5 carrying the sub- theme Khazanah Manuskrip Nusantara', or 'Nusantara Manuscript Treasures', and session 6 with the sub-theme entitled 'Pengurusan dan Penyelenggaraan Manuskrip Melayu Islam' or 'Management and Maintenance of Malay Islamic Manuscripts. The presentation of the two sessions was held this afternoon at the Theater Hall of Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

Dr. Haji Tassim bin Haji Abu Bakar, Senior Assistant Professor and Director of Brunei Studies Academy, Universiti Brunei Darussalam with his working paper entitled 'Hukum Kanun Brunei Hubungannya Dengan Konsep Melayu Islam Beraja' among others discussed the Brunei Law Act in relation to the Malay Islamic Monarchy Concept which documented the laws of the traditional Bruneian Sultanate especially before the British administration in 1906. The discussion focused on the manuscripts interrelation with the concept of Malay Islamic Monarchy, MIB as the three components were found in them. In addition, the presentation also touched on the implementation evidence of Islamic law in Brunei in the 19th century.

Meanwhile, Professor Madya Dr. Zaneuddin Hudi Prasojo, Former Deputy Rector at IAIN Pontianak and member of the Indonesian Manuscript Association explained the archipelago's modern community were obliged to the contribution of the Archipelago sultanate on the Islamic propagation in the region. During the tabling of the working paper titled 'Beasiswa Studi Manuskrip Borneo: Pentingnya Kajian Manuskrip dan Da'wah Islam Borneo, he added various evidence shows the Islamic propagation in the archipelago are the significant contribution from the early 14th century Islamic Sultanate encompassing the Islamic heritage such as historical artefacts and Malay manuscript.

The research titled Islamic Manuscripts: An Inquiry into the richness of the intellectual archives of Meranaw Muslims in Mindanao, Philippines was tabled by Dr Labi Hadji Sarip Riwarung,Researcher at The Mamitua Saber Research Centre, Mindanao State University, Marawi City, Phillipine. He explained the Islamic manuscript found in Maranaw plays a significant role and act as source of Islamic knowledge that reflects people's thinking and aspirations. Apart from that the manuscripts also served as knowledge source in understanding Meranaw's culture and history and their relationship with the Malay world, including Indonesia, Saudi and Brunei Darussalam.

Meanwhile, Awang Rosle bin Haji Jumat, Head of Fatwa Secretariat, the State Mufti's Department discussed the meaning of the manuscript and tahqiq and its role in developing exhibition halls. He said many manuscripts from various disciplines has not been research with tahqiq, even though it was a valuable history. From the manuscript text it is possible to know the author's condition, the community and the surroundings where the manuscript was from. Awang Roslee tabled the working paper titled 'Pentahqiqan Manuskrip: Tinjaun awal terhadap manuskrip-manuskrip Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah'.
