Seminar in Conjunction with Golden Jubilee Celebration

In the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, the Ministry of Development understands digital infrastructure and utilities are the basic building blocks that enable cities to utilise technology efficiently. For the Ministry of Development, one of the focus areas is to embark on SMART Infrastructure Management with the main factors being safety, speed, cost savings and quality of living. This was stated by the Permanent Secretary for Infrastructure, Housing and Professional at the Ministry of Development in his keynote address during the Seminar ‘Towards Sustainable and Resilient Future Together’. The seminar was held in conjunction with the Department of Town and Country Planning Golden Jubilee celebration. The event took place yesterday afternoon at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

 

Engineer Awang Haji Amer Hishamuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Zakaria added with smart sensors, disasters can be avoided with real-time monitoring and early detection. Agencies can receive real-time alerts and issue work orders automatically to expedite the resolution of any problems with critical infrastructure assets.

 

The ceremony coincided with the tabling of papers under the fifth Thematic segment, which is the Smart Cities Initiative.  The paper ‘Info-Telecommunications Infrastructure: Prospects for smart cities initiatives’ by Awang Tan Boon Sin, Managing Officer of the Brunei Darussalam Authority of Info-communications Technology Industry, AITI explained the role of AITI and initiatives to strengthen telecommunications infrastructure for support towards a smart nation.

 

Meanwhile, Dayang Raini binti Matyassin, Data Management Officer at the E-Government National Centre, EGNC discussed the ‘National Information Hub Initiative’. The initiative as one of the ‘Digital Economy Council Flagship’ projects, acts as the backbone of the Digital Economy ecosystem.

 

The presentation on ‘Geographic Information System, GIS: Prospects for Smart Cities Initiative’ by Agung Probowo, Chief Technical Officer of Srimaya Teknologies and Communications Company touched on GIS. The initiative will be ready for analytics, visual, capital and decision support systems.
