The government's target to plant 500,000 new trees by 2035 is expected to be realised with tree planting activities by Seameo Voctech Regional Centre at Berakas Forest Reserve Recreation Park, yesterday afternoon. The activity was organised in conjunction with the centre's 32nd anniversary.

The tree planting was officiated by Awang Alias bin Abu Bakar, Director of Seameo Voctech Centre. The trees include the Hibiscus Tiliaceus, Casuarina Equisetifolia and Calophyllum Inophyllum. The initiative supports the Green Protocol Tree Planting Campaign under the Ministry of Education and the Green Protocol Strategy. According to the Brunei Darussalam National Council on Climate Change, one of the key strategies for Brunei Darussalam's transition into a low carbon and climate-resilient nation is by increasing forest cover which would increase low carbon. This will positively impact the country's habitats, biodiversity and ecosystems.
