Rice Cultivation in Lot Sengkuang Agricultural Development Site

Local paddy cultivation is one of the government's initiatives to increase the rice production in the country. Paddy cultivation activities are seen to be increasing with the involvement of several entrepreneurs. In Belait District, apart from the Kandul area, Lot Sengkuang which is located in Kampung Rampayoh Labi, is a paddy cultivation area that has been cultivated in groups for the past 20 years.

The Paddy cultivation in the Agricultural Development area, KKP Lot Sengkuang is undertaken by the Mukim Labi Consultative Council, has an area of an approximately 300 hectares, of which 45 hectares are gazetted. Types of paddy grown include Sembada 188, BDR 5, MRQ 76, Pusu and Bario. In the Main Season 2021/2022, only 28 entrepreneurs are still active.

The average paddy farmer in Lot Sengkuang cultivates about point 8 hectares per person and almost all of them register under the Paddy Price Assistance Scheme. According to the Department of Agriculture in the last 2 years, paddy production in Lot Senkuang has decreased due to various facts such as crop diseases, pests, floods and lack of water resources, however the method of using existing groundwater as an irrigation source in the area will be upgraded.
