Two local men aged between 43 and 55 who were suppliers of syabu type drugs to traffickers in the country were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau, NCB in an operation conducted at the end of January until 19th of February 2022. The operation is a continuation to ‘Operation Ice Sibling’ carried out since December 2021 and early January 2022 involving arrests on a sibling drug trafficking syndicate in the Brunei Muara District and Belait District.

Investigations and surveillance by the NCB found the two arrested are competitors to the sibling syndicate and it was found they frequently made illegal crossings to the neighbouring country via Brunei waters to get their drug supply. In the follow up operation conducted, 40 people comprising 32 men and 8 women were detained and they were small-time drug sellers and their customers. The operation was conducted on nine locations in the Brunei Muara District namely Kampung Selayun, RPN Meragang, Kampung Rimba, STKRJ Perpindahan Lambak Kiri, Perumahan Sungai Bunga, Kampung Lambak, Kampung Madang, Kampung Terunjing Baru and Kampung Jerudong.

Overall, the NCB has seized 110.60 grams of Syabu, cash money believed to be proceeds from drugs sales amounting 8,858 and drug paraphernalia.

Also seized were six vehicles, a scooter, two boats as well as an engine and trailer. All arrests were investigated under the Misuse of Drugs Act, Chapter 27 and Criminal Asset recovery Order 2012. The NCB will always monitor the drug situation in the country and will take strict action without any compromisation towards drug trafficking syndicates.
