The theme for World Intellectual Property Day 2022 focuses on Intellectual Property, IP and Youth innovating for a better future which is especially apt as the youth of today faces a complex and uncertain world. Yet despite this, youth around the world were seen rising to these challenges in their effort to bring about a better future with their energy and ingenuity. In Brunei, the youth can be seen to use their creativity, unique perspectives, and entrepreneurial spirit to drive innovation within the country in the effort to achieve national socio-economic development goals under Wawasan 2035. This was highlighted by the Attorney General, who is also the Registrar of Trade Marks, Patents and Industrial Designs, at the Opening Ceremony of World Intellectual Property Day 2022, yesterday morning, at the Pro Chancellor Arts Centre, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, UBD.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmad bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Di- Raja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa mentioned this World Intellectual Property Day event is an opportunity for participants to explore and discover the ways in which intellectual property rights can support their goals and ambitions – whether it be in the arts, science, or technology. The event also featured showcases of innovations created by youth and entrepreneurs, displays of UBD’s patents and innovations, and an IP-related activity conducted by Bru-IPO. This year, Brunei Darussalam celebrates World Intellectual Property Day with the theme: “Intellectual Property and Youth: Innovating for a better future.” with an event jointly organised by the Brunei Darussalam Intellectual Property Office, Bru-IPO and UBD, with the support of Shell LiveWIRE Brunei Sendirian Berhad.
