The Minister of Health shared that on the 5th of October, 6,720 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine injection.
Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, 315,130 individuals have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 69.5 per cent of the total population. Meanwhile, 203,947 individuals have completed the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, making it 45 per cent of the total population. Among the elderly, only 88.7 per cent of those aged 60 and above have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This means that more than 5,000 senior citizens have not yet been vaccinated.
Yang Berhormat said that data from the National Isolation Centre found that positive cases for individuals aged 60 and above are five times more likely to be categorised in Category 5 and require the assistance of artificial ventilation. Vaccination especially among the elderly is important to prevent severe effects of COVID-19.
