The participation of selected athletes in Sukan Malaysia 2022, SUKMA is not just exposure, but participation to fight with a high competitive spirit, as well as a strong desire to succeed and most importantly as a platform to participate in sports games at the international level. The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports said the athletes need to have high discipline and a strong sportsmanship, in order to maintain the good name and image of Brunei Darussalam. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad stated the matter during the National Flag Handover Ceremony to the Brunei Darussalam contingent to the 20th SUKMA.

Meanwhile, Pengiran Mohammad Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary for Sports at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in his speech among others said, the preparation of the athletes has been on-going since last year to ensure that they obtain a satisfactory level of achievement and performance.

The national flag was handed over to Dayang Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim as National contingent’s Chef de Mission to the 20th SUKMA. The national contingent comprise 39 people with 25 athletes and 14 officials. Among the sports events participated are Aquatic – Swimming, Karate, Petanque, Pencak Silat and Wushu. Also present was His Excellency Dato’ Raja Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam.
