Memorandum of Cooperation on Defence

Wide-ranging regional defence and security issues and matters of mutual interest, particularly on the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation on Defence Cooperation and Exchanges in the near future were discussed during the virtual meeting between the Second Minister of Defence and the Minister of Defence of Japan. The meeting was the second to be held this year.

During the meeting, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohammad Yussof and His Excellency Kishi Nobuo expressed satisfaction over the warm and cordial defence relations shared by both countries and reaffirmed their commitments to further strengthen the bilateral defence relations. Yang Berhormat also appreciated Japan's cooperation and efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the region, particularly in managing the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the Minister of Defence of Japan commended Brunei Darussalam's ASEAN Direct Communications Infrastructure, ADI initiative under the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting, ADMM framework and hopes to continue to support the ongoing initiative.
