Meeting With Members of Legislative Council

Brunei Darussalam will continue to increase efforts in achieving a dynamic and sustainable economy, despite facing various challenges such as the slow Global Economy growth, due to the GeoPolitical Conflict and the COVID-19 Pandemic which is still prevalent with the emergence of new variants. The Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy said the country's continuous efforts to overcome various challenges can be seen through the increase in Gross Domestic Product, GDP, in recent years.

In his address at the Meeting Session between the Members of the Legislative Council and Ministry of Finance and Economy, yesterday morning, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah stressed that the GDP that increased due to a significant growth from the non-oil and gas sector which among other things, was driven by the increase in the downstream sector of oil and gas. Yang Berhormat said that 5 identified sectors namely the Oil and Gas Downstream Sector, Food, ICT, Tourism and Services will be priorities to advance economic diversification efforts in the coming year. The session took place at the Ministry of Finance and Economy

Yang Berhormat said that the Ministry of Finance and Economy focuses primarily on efforts to increase activity and investment in the relevant sector, whether through the implementation of foreign direct investment, FDI or through government-linked companies, GLCs in order to increase industrial organisations which in turn will be able to generate more economic opportunities to the local through increased job and business opportunities.

Through the meeting session, the Ministry of Finance and Economy shared the ministry's role as the main facilitator to ensure that all parties are aligned towards the achievement of the aspirations of the Economic Blueprint and the Wawasan Brunei 2035.
