CEBU CITY: Transport officials here underscored preparedness as key to a safe and hassle-free travel experience. Glen Galario, regional director of the Land Transportation Office (LTO)-Central Visayas, said the agency deployed personnel in major terminals in the region to conduct random inspections in anticipation of increased traffic volume due to the long holiday. 'We are conducting random inspection of public utility vehicles (PUVs) to make sure that they are road-worthy and ready for the influx of passengers going back to their provinces and others taking their vacation,' Galario told the Philippine News Agency. Eduardo Montealto Jr., regional director of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Central Visayas, said the LTFRB issued 130 special permits to ensure there are enough buses to service those who are going to the province. 'Although it is not necessary, we are just doing that to extend the existing routes to give the riding public a chance to be with their family t his long holiday,' Montealto told the PNA. Governor Gwendolyn Garcia on Wednesday visited the Cebu South Bus Terminal to see the plight of passengers of south-bound buses. Meanwhile, the Cebu provincial police deployed 1,800 police personnel in terminals, ports, churches, and public places, said Chief Col. Percival Zorilla.
