Leaders with quality leadership should make efforts to enhance specific skills apart from increasing their knowledge, as skills and knowledge are ever-changing. This was stressed by the Minister of Home Affairs stressed at the launching of Leadership Strengthening Workshop for Penghulu Mukim, Acting Penghulu Mukim, Heads of Village and Acting Heads of Village yesterday morning at the Civil Service Institute. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong underlined the need for grassroots leaders to practise and make lifelong learning as a way of life. Yang Berhormat said skills and knowledge alone are not enough without positive attitude.
Yang Berhormat said leaders will work in various situations, where they will face a variety of issues and challenges that need careful and wise management constantly. The minister added that skills, knowledge and attitude need to be accompanied by accountability.
Yang Berhormat also highlighted that youths, who make up 60 per cent of the country's total population should be involved in implementing Mukim and Kampung Consultative Councils' plans as well as activities. The minister said leaders must explore best approaches to attract the youth towards Mukim and Kampung Consultative Councils' plans and activities. Yang Berhormat believed that with the youth's active involvement, they will be able to mobilise various beneficial plans and volunteer activities.
The workshop is filled with briefings by various government agencies on grassroot leadership. The 2-day workshop is organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, and is attended by penghulu mukim, acting penghulu mukim, heads of village and acting heads of village nationwide. Also present were Awang Salminan bin Haji Burut, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs and his deputy, Awang Abdul Walid bin Haji Matassan.
