Technology is transforming the global economy and it is changing the very fabric of businesses and organizations. The Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and the Second Minister of Finance and Economy stated the matter during the Launching Ceremony of the Study in Professional Institution or SPIN, In Accountancy Programme. The programme will assist locals to pursue professional certification in order to bridge the skills gap and create a pool of local professionals in the area of auditing, accounting and finance.
The Programme is also hoped to boost the number of local accounting professionals in the future, to meet the country and economic needs in alignment with the aspiration of Wawasan Brunei 2035. Touching on the accounting landscape, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah said the Government of Brunei Darussalam has established the Brunei Darussalam Accounting Standards Council, BDASC and the Public Accountants Oversight Committee, PAOC to enhance the quality of financial reporting and also the status of accountancy professions in Brunei Darussalam.
The event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Manpower Planning and Employment Council, MPEC and the Brunei Darussalam Institute of Chartered Public Accountants, BICPA, represented by Pengiran Hjh Nurul Ihsan binti Pengiran Hj Damit, the Acting Deputy Director at MPEC Secretariat and Dk Hjh Siti Khadijah binti Pg Hj Moksin, President of BICPA.
58 participants who have been selected to be the first batch of the programme and 25 mentors received their respective certificates. The SPIN in Accountancy Programme under the MPEC was developed with the support from the Ministry of Finance and Economy together with BICPA. Also present, Datin Seri Paduka Doctor Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd. Salleh, Acting Minister of Education, Dato Seri Paduka Doctor Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy for Economy and Dato Seri Paduka Architect Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Deputy Minister of Development.
