Launch of National Hyperlipidaemia Guideline Book

In Brunei Darussalam, Cardiovascular Disease continues to be the second highest cause of death after cancer, and accounted for nearly 32 percent of deaths in 2019. One of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease in the country, besides hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity and smoking is Hyperlipidaemia. Speaking at the Inauguration Ceremony of the 2022 National Hyperlipidaemia Guidelines Book, the Minister of Health stressed the importance of early detection and treatment of at-risk patients. The guidelines book is a collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Brunei Cardiac Society. The opening ceremony took place at a hotel in the capital.

The ceremony ran concurrently with the presentation of the guidelines book to representatives from hospitals and healthcare institutions in the country. The guidelines provide a method for physicians, nurses, allied health practitioners to diagnose patients when patients have high cholesterol levels that require screening as well as recommended treatments to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.
