Language Research Project Briefing

Efforts to dignify and empower the Malay language in the country continue to be intensified with the implementation of projects or activities that can lead to the preservation and documentation of the nation’s cultural treasures. The Language and Literature Bureau through the Research, Documentation and Recognition Division will hold a ‘Penyelidikan Bahasa dan Kalimat Tua’ or Old Languages and Sentences Research project. Yesterday morning, a briefing was held on the project which was attended by the Penghulu Mukims and Village Heads as well as members of the Tutong Senior Citizens Activity Centre. The briefing took place at the Language and Literature Bureau in Tutong District.

 

During the briefing, Awang Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Acting Director of the Language and Literature Bureau shared on the research project that will be implemented in December as an effort to track the existence of old languages and sentences that were once spoken and used by the Brunei community to be reintroduced through documentation. The research estimated to be conducted for two years will see the Bureau’s research team seeking and tracking down old languages and sentences in the four districts.

 

A briefing will also be held in Belait District on 16th November at the Language and Literature Bureau Library in Kampung Pandan, Kuala Belait. While for Brunei Muara District and Temburong District, it will take place at Balai Sarmayuda, the Language and Literature Bureau in Berakas on 17th November.
