Islam emphasises the obligation of keeping and fulfilling promises because it is a symbol of honesty, trust and cleanliness of a person's heart. Keeping promises is a noble attribute that is demanded in religion. The matter was among the contents of yesterday's Friday Sermon titled 'Menepati Janji Akhlak Mulia' or 'Keeping Promises A Noble Attribute'.

According to the imam or prayer leader, promise is a trust that we must fulfill and we cannot take it lightly or take it easily, because breaking promises is an act of the hypocrites and is a major sin that Allah SWT hates and angry with. Therefore we should not easily make promises. This is because every promise will be queried and held accountable on the Judgement Day. Saying "In Shaa Allah" when making a promise is not as an excuse for not fulfilling the promise that has been made.
