Brunei Darussalam ranks first in ASEAN and 14th in the world surpassing Singapore in mobile internet connection. The Unified National Network Sendirian Berhad, UNN in its press release also stated that current trends indicate that 2 third of the world's population use online services and the activity is continuing to increase.

In ensuring inclusive access, under the UNN's Rural Development Programme, several additional base stations and fibre were built to cover access to rural areas. The 38 planned rural locations include remote areas in Belait District, Tutong District and Temburong District. All the telecommunications service providers within the Darussalam Assets Sendirian Berhad, Group of Companies, supported by Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry (AITI) is an initiative towards a Smart Nation aligned with the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025 and Wawasan Brunei 2035.
