Zakat or tithe is closely related to social and economic issues as Islam makes tithe as an instrument to eradicate poverty in the society. This is done by raising awareness among those who have wealth surplus on their social responsibility. Realising on the importance of increasing Muslim's understanding and awareness on the obligations of paying Zakat, not only on Zakat Fitrah but also 'Zakat Harta' or Property Tithe, the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB with the cooperation of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, MUIB organised the International Conference on Fiqh Al-Zakat Education or PAP FIZ for 2 days.
The conference was launched by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd. Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy. PAP FIZ is one of the events lined up in the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition or MYCE 2021 which aims to share knowledge and increase business activities that contribute towards the country economic growth.
Yesterday morning's session included the tabling of Premier Paper One titled 'Empowering Muslim's Socio-Economy through Tithe' by Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs. According to the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, an effective and efficient tithe management can create social justice, assist the underprivileged and create a caring society that works together and is attentive towards one another.
27 working papers will be tabled throughout the 2-day event including 3 premier papers and 3 main papers.
