His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, arrived in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia to attend the Official Inauguration Ceremony of the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Joko Widodo. The ceremony will take place on the 20th October 2019.
Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.
Upon arrival at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was welcomed by His Excellency Muhadjir Effendi, Minister of Education and Culture; His Excellency Dr. Sujatmiko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Brunei Darussalam, and senior officials from the Republic of Indonesia.
Also present to greet His Majesty were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs; and His Excellency Retired Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Yussof bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Indonesia.
Upon arrival, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen boarded a motorcade towards Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital to visit His Excellency General TNI (Retired) Dr. H. Wiranto S.H., Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, who is currently undergoing medical treatment at the hospital.
His Majesty then proceeded to a renowned hotel in Jakarta where His Majesty will reside throughout the duration.
His Excellency President Joko Widodo won the presidential election of the Republic of Indonesia on 21 May 2019. His Excellency will be declared as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia.
Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Indonesia enjoy warm and cordial relations. The diplomatic relations of Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Indonesia was established in 1984. Since then, both countries have enjoyed the growing cooperation primarily in economic and trade cooperation, as well as in the field of defence, education, human resources, and agriculture. The relations were further strengthen with His Majesty's State Visit to the Republic of Indonesia in 2018 and a State Visit by the current President of the Republic of Indonesia to Brunei Darussalam in 2015.
