On 22nd June night, the G20 Joint Education and Labour and Employment Ministers' Meeting was held virtually. As the Chairman of ASEAN for 2021, Brunei Darussalam was invited as the special guest of the Republic of Italy holding the position of G20 President for 2021. The Joint Meeting was held after the G20 Education Ministers' Meeting on the same day.
Present were Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs, and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education. This meeting was represented by Ministers, Deputy Ministers and representatives from the education and employment sectors. Also present were representatives from Singapore, Spain and the Netherlands as special guests for the G20 meetings. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - UNESCO; Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD; International Labour Organization, ILO; World Bank and African Union, AU.
As part of the agenda of this Joint Meeting, the Minister of Education had the opportunity to share several initiatives implemented by ASEAN and Brunei Darussalam Ministry of Education on the issue of transition from school to workplace. Also at the meeting, the Minister of Education congratulated Italy on the success of its leadership in the meetings and supported the G20 Joint Declaration on the Transition from School to World of Employment which marked the G20 commitment in the field of Employment. Among those present were Doctor Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary for Core Education, Awang Mohammad Amir Hairil bin Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary for Security, Welfare and Law at the Ministry of Education, and Awang Muhammad Saufi bin Haji Ibrahim, Commissioner of Labour.
