Residents of Kampung Meragang National Housing Scheme and the surrounding areas will soon have a new mosque which is expected to be completed by January next year. Yesterday morning, a foundation laying ceremony was held for the new mosque.

The foundation laying was officiated by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs, and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Ingenieur Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Ghafar, Minister of Development. Under the National Development Plan, the $4.3 million – new mosque can accommodate approximately 2,200 congregants, and is built on an 8.159 acre site. Also present were the Chief Syari’e Judge, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and Member of the Legislative Council.
