Brunei Darussalam is expected to enter the second half of the Northeast Monsoon that runs until the end of March. Based on the country's climatology, February and March have the lowest number of rainy days and total rainfall compared to other countries. Throughout the period, the country will typically experience hot and dry weather, where rainfall activities are reduced due to stable atmospheric condition.

Potential weather impacts during the second half of the Northeast Monsoon are hot condition in the day, and there are times when the maximum air temperature rises between 33 to 35 degrees Celsius.

From the 1st to 30th of January this year, the Fire and Rescue Department received 7 calls on forest fires and 7 calls on bush fires in the Brunei Muara District. Belait District recorded 3 calls for forest fires and 2 calls for bush fires, while Tutong District recorded 2 calls on forest fires and 2 calls for bush fires.

In 2021, the Fire and Rescue Department recorded 216 calls on forest fires involving 198 point 3 hectare and 245 calls on bush fires involving 106.21 hectare. Belait District has the highest call statistic involving peat forest fires that takes a long time to be extinguished.

According to the country's climatology, in February and March, the country usually will experience hot and dry weather condition that can cause slight hazy condition and forest as well as bush fires.

Members of the public are reminded to avoid open burning and are advised to assist in extinguishing small forest or bush fires without endangering oneself. For hunters or forest recreational activity enthusiasts, avoid lighting a fire and if needed, make sure the fire embers are fully extinguished. For any incident, call hotline 995.
