Enrolment Ceremony to Commando Training Centre Royal Marines

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday attended the Enrolment of His Royal Highness 920 Major Udara Prince 'Abdul Mateen, which was held at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, CTCRM, Lympstone, Devon, United Kingdom.

The arrival of His Majesty at the CTCRM Officers' Mess was received with a Royal Salute presented by the Guard of Honour, and which was accompanied by the Royal Marine Band. His Majesty was greeted by His Royal Highness 920 Major Udara Prince 'Abdul Mateen, and welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel Chris Samuel, Commanding Officer Base and Support Wing; and Lieutenant Colonel Tom Evans-Jones, Chief of Staff; and Warrant Officer 1st Class, Regimental Sergeant Major, RSM, Nick Ollive.

His Majesty afterwards proceeded to the Achnacarry Room for a briefing by Lieutenant Colonel Chris Samuel, Commanding Officer Base & Support Wing. His Royal Highness 920 Major Udara Prince 'Abdul Mateen's The All Arms Commando Course, AACC, will lasts for 13 weeks and is run by the Royal Marines at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, CTCRM, Lympstone. On completion of the course the successful candidate earns the right to don the Green Beret, and to wear the 'Commando Dagger' on their uniform.

His Majesty attended a Luncheon in 'The Deal' room. Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness 920 Major Udara Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

During the visit, His Majesty had the opportunity to observe the All Arms Commando Course Log Run and Battle Physical Training which was carried out by His Royal Highness 920 Major Udara Prince 'Abdul Mateen with other participants. CTCRM, is the principal training centre for the Royal Marines. Based at Lympstone in Devon, CTCRM selects and trains all Royal Marines Officers and recruits. CTCRM is unique in that it also provides all Non Commissioned Officer, NCO, command training as well as training 70% of all Royal Marines specialists.

Before concluding the tour to CTCRM, His Majesty received a pesambah by Lieutenant Colonel Chris Samuel, Commanding Officer Base & Support Wing, which is a Royal Marines Commando bayonet, a Fairbairn–Sykes, FS knife. His Majesty consented to present a plaque by Ministry of Defence to commemorate His Majesty's visit to the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, CTCRM. The FS fighting knife was made famous during the Second World War when issued to British Commandos, the SAS and many other units, especially for the Normandy Landings in June 1944. The FS knife is strongly associated with the British Commandos and the US Office of Strategic Services, OSS and Marine Raiders, among other special forces during that period.
