Two prison warders were brought before the Magistrate’s Court today for breaching the Prisons Rule.
First defendant, Azman Ilham bin Haji Md Noor and Second defendant, Siti Naemah binti Haji Lilah were charged for conveying letters without lawful authority between Wong Soon Teck, a male prisoner at Maraburong Prison and his wife, Rannie Labu, a female prisoner at the Women’s Prison Institution in Jerudong. Investigations carried out by the Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed that in February last year, Siti Naemah received a letter from a fellow prison warder attached at the Maraburong Prison, a letter written by Wong to be delivered to Rannie. The second defendant also provided Rannie with pen and paper to reply to the letter, before passing it to the first defendant. The letter eventually reached Wong. A similar offence was repeated on April 2019.
Siti Naemah pleaded guilty for 3 offences and was sentenced to 2 months’ imprisonment. Meanwhile, Azman Ilham informed the Court that he was not ready for his plea to be recorded. His case will be mentioned again on the 24th of June 2020.
