Contraband Seized

The Royal Customs and Excise Department, RCED, Ministry of Finance and Economy through the Law Enforcement Division recently conducted 6 operations based on public tip offs regarding contraband smuggling and sales.

 

The first operation was conducted on the 14th of November at the Low San building parking area in Jalan Batu Bersurat. RCED detained 2 local men aged 27 and 32 who were believed to be possessing 18 cartons, 12 packs and 21 sticks of cigarettes of various brands. On the same day, another operation was conducted at the Al Barakah Complex parking area, where 2 more local men aged 23 and 29 were apprehended. They were believed to be possessing 111 cartons, 7 packs and 17 sticks of cigarettes of various brands; 1 bottle of alcoholic drink; a vehicle and cash amounting one thousand 385 dollars believed to be proceeds from contraband sales.

 

The third operation was carried out on the 15th of November at Kampung Lugu housing, and 2 men and 2 women, all locals, between 32 to 41 years old were detained. They were believed to be possessing 6 cartons and 10 packs of cigarettes of various brands, 1 bottle of alcoholic drink; 889 vape mods and pods; 236 bottles of flavoured vape juice; 259 vape accessories; and other contraband such as cosmetics, health and beauty products as well as food that are believed to smuggled into the country. On the 20th of November, the fourth operation took place at Kampong Bukit Beruang, RCED apprehended a 38-year old male foreigner who was believed to be posssessing 9 cartons and 17 packs of cigarettes of various brands.

 

On the 20th of November at Kampung Menglait, 5 male foreigners aged 22 to 46 were detained. They were believed to be possessing 94 cartons, 22 packs and 51 sticks of cigarettes of various brands and cash amounting $1,663 believed to be proceeds from contraband sales. The sixth operation took place at Brunei River, where a Malaysian man was apprehended. He was believed to be in possession of one thousand 800 cartons of cigarettes. Also seized was a 23-feet boat and its engine.
