COTABATO CITY: Police authorities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on Thursday warned the public not to fall prey on fake dentists who go house-to-house to provide dental services. Lt. Col. Ariel Huesca, regional director for the police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-BARMM), issued the warning after a fake dentist was arrested in Lanao del Sur Wednesday afternoon. 'This is a threat to one's dental health,' Huesca said in a radio interview. Since January, CIDG-BARMM has arrested eight fake dentists operating in various parts of BARMM for the illegal practice of dentistry. 'The fake dentists have been performing dental services like tooth extraction, manufacturing, and fitting of teeth braces, among others,' he said. Of the eight arrested fake dentists, three were caught operating their illegal practice in Cotabato City, two in Maguindanao provinces, and three in Lanao del Sur. Huesca said all arrested suspects failed to present certification, registration , and professional identification cards and have been slapped with charges for violation of Republic Act 9484 or The Philippine Dental Act of 2007.
