BICTA Awards 2022

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, graced the Brunei Info-Communications Technology Awards, BICTA 2022 Ceremony, 7th July morning. This year's BICTA carried the theme, Smart Nation Through Digital Transformation. The ceremony was held at the Chancellor Hall of Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha Minister of Transport and Infocommunications; Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister, Department of Energy at the Prime Minister's Office as Chairman of the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam, AITI; Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications as Co-Chairman ONE of BICTA 2022 Steering Committee.

The ceremony commenced with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Yang Dimuliakan Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Awang Haji Metassan bin Haji Tahir.

The Minister of Transport and Infocommunications in his welcoming remarks touched on the recent initiatives introduced to ensure the perseverance of BICTA participants and advancement of the products including by introducing the BICTA Level Up programme. Yang Berhormat said that through the programme, a number of local companies namely DST, Imagine, Progresif, Dynamik Technologies and Shell Livewire Brunei will act as BICTA Supporting Partners, by providing support through their respective initiatives to bring out the potential of selected BICTA products and participants.

His Royal Highness then presented tokens of appreciation to the BICTA 2022 judges and prizes to the winners of each category as well as the winners of Special Awards and the BICTA Royal Patron Award. Chung Hwa Middle School, Bandar Seri Begawan with their product 'AI CARE' was named as the first winner for the School Category. Universiti Teknologi Brunei, UTB with their product, Smart Paddy Irrigation System was named as the Second Place winner for the Tertiary Category. For the ICT Industry Category, the Ministry of Health with their product, BruHealth won first place.

For the projects that best fit the criteria set for Special Awards of BICTA 2022, the Internet of Things, IoT Technology's recipient was Bru IoT, Artificial Intelligence, AI Technology's recipient was CodeBit, Big Data Analytics Technology's recipient was Land Transport Department and Universiti Teknologi Brunei and Start-Up's recipient was Thryffy Technologies. BruHealth by the Ministry of Health was named as the BICTA 2022 Royal Patron Award. His Royal Highness then received a Pesambah.

Winners in each category will have the opportunity to represent Brunei Darussalam at the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance, APICTA Awards 2022. BICTA is organised to stimulate innovation and creativity in ICT among individuals, students and local enterprises. His Royal Highness' presence is a source of high motivation for local ICT industry players and youths to continue to improve the spirit of competitiveness, skills and innovation.
