7th ASIAN Infrastructure Investment Bank Board of Governors Annual Meeting

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, and Governor for Brunei Darussalam at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) attended the 7 th AIIB Board of Governors (BOG) Annual Meeting held virtually. The Meeting was chaired by His Excellency Mr. Javkhlan Bold, AIIB Governor for Mongolia and assisted by the vice chair, Her Excellency, Ms. Magdalena Rzeczkowska, AIIB Governor for Poland.

 

The Annual Meeting, themed “Sustainable Infrastructure Toward a Connected World”, aims to reaffirm infrastructure’s crucial role in supporting recovery, growth and connectivity. It also reiterates the Bank’s commitment toward sustainable and resilient infrastructure investments in a crisis and climate challenged world.

 

During the opening session, the AIIB President, His Excellency Jin Liqun, shared the latest achievements, initiatives and policy directions of the Bank in spurring infrastructure development in the region as well as in helping member countries mitigate the impacts of evolving global challenges. A Roundtable Session was also held, where Governors, among others, deliberated on the Bank’s support in financing infrastructure in a crisis prone world, enhancing energy access and transitioning towards Net Zero. During the session YB Dato Dr. emphasized three priority areas for the Bank to undertake to support members’ journey towards a sustainable and resilient future namely:

 

​To support projects design and development in order to create pipelines of robust and bankable infrastructure projects to improve financing attractiveness;

To facilitate strategic partnerships between policy makers, business and multi-lateral development institutions in creating new opportunities; and

To channel more investments in securing the future of food, water and energy resources.

 

 

Also present at the meeting were Yang Mulia Awang Mohammad Harris Bin Brigadier Jeneral (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Trade and Industry) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MOFE) and officers from the International Affairs Division of MOFE.
