The First Meeting of the 16th Legislative Council Session closed its curtains yesterday by approving the budget of 5.86 billion dollars for the Financial Year 2020/2021. Unlike previous years, this year's session is not a norm but is an emergency which must be carried out following the outbreak of COVID-19. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, Speaker of the Legislative Council explained that following the outbreak of COVID-19 which has been declared as a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation, WHO and on the advice of Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, the Minister of Health, who is also acting in accordance to the legal principles, the First Meeting of the 16th Legislative Council Session, decided that for item 6, questions that have been given notice are not to be deliberated on, in the meeting. Yang Berhormat Pehin also suggested that the Supply Bill 2020/2021 is to be approved and all questions raised to be answered in writing.
Yang Berhormat Pehin said the meeting which discussed the topic of Paragraph 1, the Supply Bill 2020/2021, to be enforced on 1st April 2020. The Speaker deemed the topic need not to be deliberated on. Hence, the session has approved the Supply Bill 2020-2021 proposed by the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy, whereby the bill has been read for the third time and approved.
