30th SEA Games 2019 Post-Mortem Meeting

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council in a sabda said the Brunei Darussalam contingent's achievement during the 30th SEA Games, last year in the Republic of the Philippines especially for the athletes and teams who took home 2 gold medals, 5 silvers and 6 bronze medals was one of the country's best achievements in the SEA Games since 1977. His Royal Highness made the sabda at the Philippines 30th SEA Games 2019 Post-Mortem Meeting yesterday morning. The meeting took place at the Dewan Kuliah of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Suhaili bin Haji Mohiddin.

His Royal Highness in his sabda urged for the athletes and teams who did not succeed in obtaining any medals and were unable to achieve their targets, to always strive in undergoing training much more diligently. His Royal Highness in his sabda also hoped for the athletes to try again at future contingent sports if they are selected to represent the country, for a secret of success is relentless effort and never giving up.

Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports thanked His Royal Highness for his presence at the meeting which portrays His Royal Highness' continuous care and attention towards the meaningful development of sports in the country. Yang Berhormat added that the Post-Mortem will provide the contingent with a platform to continue improve on the success achieved and at the same time develop their performance specifically and national sports in general, especially in future sports events. The Minister reiterated their commitment in answering His Majesty's titah that the success achieved can be made as a measuring stick in order to continuously develop and determine a much higher success level in the future.

During the question and answer session, Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzillah Lubabul Bolkiah binti His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, as the team captain of "Royal Bees" in a sabda said, The Royal Bees would not have achieved 3 bronze medals in the SEA Games, since 2015, without the players hard work and dedication, the thorough management of Brunei Darussalam Netball Association and the coaching expertise provided. Her Royal Highness' sabda text was read by the vice-captain of the "Royal Bees".

The meeting also heard the 30th SEA Games contingent report. Awang Haji Muhd Zamri bin Dato Paduka Haji Hamdani, as the Chef de Mission in his report gave several proposals among them the need for the National Sports Association to establish a Performance Unit or Section whereby its committee comprises former national athletes in the relevant sport, with its main role to monitor and arrange more specific as well as focused long term strategies to ensure the country's athletes' welfare and performance are truly given attention so that the main performance target or indicator achieved. 87 national athletes participated in the 30th SEA Games in the Republic of the Philippines last year. At the event, the country took part in Aquatics, Athletics, Billiards, Bowling, Fencing, Football, Golf, Karate Do, Lawn Bowling, Netball, Silat, Polo, Taekwondo and Wushu.
