2nd United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference

Brunei Darussalam's aspirations towards achieving sustainable transportation through three main components, first - Progressive enhancement of road safety, second – Re-strategize current national public transport system and thirdly - making Brunei Darussalam a smart nation and smart city by leveraging on innovation, research and development. The Minister of Transport and Infocommunications shared the statement at the 2nd United Nations Global Sustainable Transport conference via video conferencing held from 14th to 16th of October 2021. During the Ministers' Forum titled 'Sustainable transport, poverty, eradication and economic recovery – direct exchange of views and sharing of national experiences', Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof expressed that through transport management, it will allow further understanding and insight into emerging trends and patterns that serve as a major input towards the formulation of Brunei Darussalam's national transport policies. Among the national transport policies being currently addressed include initiatives to reduce carbon footprint and promoting the use of multimodal transportation.

Yang Berhormat Minister also expressed that the Conference came at the right time for participating member countries to share their experiences as well as exchanging thoughts and ideas in addressing issues and challenges during the global COVID-19 pandemic that has affected the transportation system, logistics, supply chain and economies in unprecedented ways. With the theme 'Sustainable Transport, Sustainable Development', the 2nd United Nations Global Sustainable Transport was officiated by His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China and His Excellency António Guterres, Secretary-General, United Nations. Presiding the Conference was His Excellency Li Xiaopeng, Minister of Transport of the People's Republic of China. The Conference discussed key issues within six thematic sessions. During the Closing Ceremony, the Beijing Statement of the 2nd United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference was announced, which outlines the importance and way forward towards sustainable and transport transformation.
