Launching of 2021 ASEAN-China Year of Sustainable Development Cooperation

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send a congratulatory message to the People's Republic of China, which was delivered by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Ingenieur Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development of Brunei Darussalam via video recording. In the message, His Majesty congratulates the Government and People's Republic of China on the launching of the 2021 ASEAN-China Year of Sustainable Development Cooperation and the 30th anniversary of Brunei-China diplomatic relations, while looking forward for projects and programmes under the cooperation to be implemented.

The message of congratulations was presented during the event, which was held physically on the 28th of May 2021 in Beijing, People's Republic of China. The event was hosted by the People's Republic of China and Brunei Darussalam was given the honour as co-host country in marking the starting point for activities to come, commemorating the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations. During the event, Yang Berhormat the Minister of Development was also given the honor to deliver an opening remark which was read by Dato Seri Paduka Architect Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Deputy Minister of Development via video recording.

In his address, Yang Berhormat Dato emphasised the importance of enforcing the region and its partners with viable strategies towards achieving sustainable development through deeper understanding and collaboration. Yang Berhormat Dato added that several efforts are being and have been actively engaged by the ASEAN region in general on the road towards sustainable development goals. For Brunei Darussalam alone, such efforts include the development and adoption of medium and long term plan of actions such as the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025; National Economic Blueprint 2021; National Climate Change Policy and the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans. The one-day event brought together delegates and representatives from the People's Republic of China, ASEAN Secretariat as well as Embassies of ASEAN Member States.
