In conjunction with World Meteorological Day which is celebrated every 23rd of March, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department held such a celebration. Its theme "The Ocean, Our Climate and Weather", focuses on the relation between oceans, climate and weather with the World System. The event took place yesterday morning at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications.
During the event, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Awang Mohammad Yusof, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications launched the Weather Awareness Campaign 2021 and the Brunei Young Meteorologist Club, BYMC. The event was followed by a certificate presentation to the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department for obtaining its Quality Management Systems ISO 9001:2015 certificate.
Also being held was a forum which among other things highlighted the ocean's main role in influencing weather and world climate as well as in climate change. According to Dayang Fadhliyana Binti Haji Madli, Meteorological Officer, an exhibition was also held which saw the participation of government agencies namely the National Disaster Management Centre, NDMC, the National Seismic Centre and the Survey Department as well as the private sector. Also present were members of the Legislative Council.
