The patient safety initiatives are showing significant progress. According to the Minister of Health, as one of the main initiatives towards achieving one of the ministry's strategic objectives which is excellence in healthcare services, patient safety leads to accreditation standards that not only focus on the patient, but also the public and Ministry of Health's staff.
Among the initiatives still being actively carried out is the establishment of the Event Reporting System throughout the country which was implemented on a trial basis in the Tutong and Belait Districts in February 2019 and has now been extended nationwide. This is one of the initiatives for a safety culture. In terms of service quality which is closely related to the safety of patient, public and health staff, the Pengkalan Batu Health Center has once again received the Joint Commission International or JCI accreditation for the second time on the 10th of December 2020. The health centre received the 'Gold Seal of Approval Award' for standards of basic healthcare. This shows the country's basic healthcare standard is among the best in the world as it was measured from patient safety, provision of high quality healthcare to the community.
