‘Fire and Safety Order 2006’

The First Meeting of the 17th Legislative Council in its sixth day yesterday approved the budget allocation for two more ministries namely the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Education to be made as part of the Supply Bill 2021/2022 Schedule.

The Council which continued in its sixth day this morning, began with deliberations on various issues related to the Ministry of Home Affairs. In response to the query on the failure of several government and private buildings in adhering to the 'Fire And Safety Order 2016' raised by Yang Berhormat Architect Dayang Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Awang Haji Abdul Rahman, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs explained that a discussion session will be held with the relevant building owners to fulfil the requirements of the Order.

The Minister said sometimes the mistakes are only seen as minor, but in fact they do not fulfil the criteria from the aspect of fire and safety order, such as hose reels to put out the fire, are blocked by boxes which can prevent the use of the hose reel during emergencies.
