Strengthening Mukim and Village Institutions

The First Meeting of the 17th Legislative Council continued yesterday with deliberation on the Ministry of Home Affairs' Budget Allocation for the Financial Year 2021/2022.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong in his deliberations for the Ministry of Home Affairs' Budget Allocation explained that the ministry will continue to plan and implement its strategic initiatives to realise the government's aspiration in strengthening socioeconomic sustainability aside from maintaining Brunei Darussalam's peace and prosperity. According to the Minister of Home Affairs one of the planned budget foci is Increasing National Productivity which involves the Mukim and Village Institutions. Yang Berhormat Pehin explained that the ministry is actively implementing several initiatives among them by introducing the e-Undi or E-Voting system.

Yang Berhormat Pehin said that with the use of the E-Undi application, aside from conventional voting procedures using ballot boxes, it is hoped to be able to assist it filling mukim penghulu and village heads position vacancies this year. With permanent appointments of penghulu mukims and village heads, it is expected for mukim penghulus and village heads to be able to head the leadership of the mukim and village as well as strive to instil and establish a united society, and cares for the welfare and well-being of the mukim and village residents.
