Sanctuary for Stray Dogs

There was also debate on the issue of stray dogs. Replying to questions by Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Ramli bin Haji Lahit and Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Osman @ Othman, the Minister of Home Affairs disclosed several efforts implemented by the Municipal Board and District Offices to ensure people who own dogs obtain licences for their pets. The Minister of Home Affairs said the government appreciates the service provided by Non-Government Organisations, NGOs to catch the stray dogs.

The Minister added only one NGO is involved at the moment. It receives funds from sponsors for feeding the dogs and their treatment at veterinary clinics although they are only strays. So far less than five hundred strays have been put at the sanctuary. Thus as a community, we hope for contributions from the NGOs to society, to carry together the burden of reducing the number of stray dogs.
