To date, a number of abattoirs in Australia and Malaysia have received accreditation from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council. Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin Bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of religious Affairs explained this in response to the query raised by Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Tahamit bin Haji Nudin on imported meat.
The Minister of Religious Affairs in his response said that the inspection procedure is under the legal authority of the Islamic Religious Council. There are new dynamics because recently Brunei Darussalam could not send Inspectors to determine the recognised abattoirs so we made requests to our High Commission and their officers who were given virtual training. They were then guided by the Muslim Society or Islamic Council at the said centres to determine the normal duties of the inspectors previously flown from Brunei.
