Deliberate On Citizen and Country’s Interests

The First Meeting of the 17th Legislative Council Session has approved the motion of vote of thanks for the presence and titah of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the Opening Ceremony yesterday. Before approving the motion, yesterday afternoon, the members of the Legislative Council first deliberated and highly upheld the monarch's titah. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, Speaker of the Legislative Council said that His Majesty's titah gives high hopes to the members of the Legislative Council to make the meeting as a strategic platform to think and deliberate on matters of national and citizen's interest, specifically on economic growth so it becomes more dynamic and sustainable.

According to Yang Berhormat, aside from highlighting issues raised by mukim and village as well as business, it is best to think on how Brunei Darussalam can generate a more sustainable economic growth apart from oil and gas production, as well as reducing national expenditure. Yang Berhormat said His Majesty's titah underlines the need for healthy brainstorming of ideas that can voiced bilaterally. Yang Berhormat added His Majesty is deeply concerned and far-sighted on the welfare of the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam, and Members of the Legislative Council need to re-examine policies to ensure the citizen's integrity and well-being.
