Programmes and events in conjunction with this year's International Women's Day, planned by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and managed by various parties are intended towards a sustainable development for women. Speaking at a Premier Forum in conjunction with the International Women's Day, Dayang Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari, Permanent Secretary for Community and Culture at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports said as this year's ASEAN Chair, Brunei Darussalam will highlight the issue of women's development in the ASEAN region as one of the deliverables under the pillar of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.
Dayang Hajah Nor Ashikin encouraged all women to be diligent, strong and competitive to improve the quality of life and well-being of each other, their family and the community.
Present was Yang Berhormat Dayang Nik Hafimi bint Abdul Haadi, Member of the Legislative Council. Recorded message video from Mr. Mohammad Naciri, on behalf of United Nations Women and His Excellency Dato Paduka Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary General of ASEAN was also delivered at the forum.
During an online dialogue session titled 'Women's Development According to Islam' with Associate Professor Doctor Norsaleha Mohd Salleh, Director of the Institute of Hadith and Aqeedah from Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor, among others stressed that women have a great responsibility in shaping and developing of Muslim families and communities. The session also stressed that in developing countries, the role of women in national development is becoming more important.
Meanwhile, a panel discussion session titled 'Women's Leadership in National Development' among others shared that most women are now involved in various jobs outside the home, from informal economic activities to professional fields. The discussion session involved several panel experts.
